The
Port
Klang
Authority
(PKA)
is
a
statutory
corporation
established
on
1st
July
1963,
to
take
over
the
administration
of
Port
Klang
from
the
Malayan
Railway
Administration.
In
1986
the
container
terminal
facilities
operated
by
Port
Klang
Authority
was
privatised
to Klang
Container
Terminal
Berhad now known as Northport (Malaysia) Bhd. The
remaining
operational
facilities
and
services
of
the
port
were
privatised
to Klang
Port
Management
Sdn
Bhd (KPC)
in 1992.
Following the
successful integration and merger of Northport
(Malaysia) Bhd (NMB) and Kelang Port Management
Sdn Bhd's operational activities under the
flagship of Northport, all employees of KPM were
absorbed into NMB. All moveable assets of KPM
have been transferred to NMB and a management
contract concluded between the two companies as
the manager of the activities on behalf of KPM
license holder effective 1 January 2002.
NMB is the
subsidiary of NCB Holdings Bhd, PKA owns 5.3% in
NCB Holdings.
The
new
port
facilities
developed
in
the
island
of Pulau
Lumut
were
privatised
to Kelang
Multi
Terminal
Sdn
Bhd
in
1994.
With
the
privatisation
exercises,
the
Authority
has
taken
on
role
of
a
trade
facilitator,
regulator
and
landlord.
The
core
functions
are
as
