PORT LIMITS:

All Navigable waters up to the high water mark and all land from the high water mark to the land boundary within the following limits:

 

Inner limit:

Batang Baram within the high water lines, from the line delineating the Coastal High Water Line at the river mouth, upstream to the geographical parallel across the river at Lat 3( 45( 00( N.

 

Outer limit:

i)  From a point on the coastal High Water Line on the Sarawak/Brunei International

    Boundary, Lat 4( 00.18( N, Long 114( 36( 27( E.

ii) Thence along the coastal High Water Line in a generally Southwesterly direction

    to a point on the Miri/Bintulu District Boundary, on the NE bank of Sungai

    Selungun, Lat 3( 35( 19( N, Long 113(20(.8E.

iii) Thence along line drawn in a 324 direction to its intersection with the limit of the

    Sarawak Territorial Sea, Lat 4( 48( 30( N Long 113( 20( 18( E.

iv) Thence Northeasterly along the boundary of Sarawak Territorial Sea to its

     intersection with the International Boundary between Sarawak and Brunei, on

     the Continental Shelf, Lat 4( 48(.36 Long 113( 57(.12 E.

v) Thence along the same international Boundary to the initial point defined in

    clause (i) above.

   
PILOTAGE:

No official pilot stationed at Miri but Shell Company provides berthing Masters to moor vessels at their moorings .

Procedure:

i. Pilotage is compulsory for berthing and is available 24 hours.

ii. Vessels should send ETA 96 hours, 72 hours and 24 hours in advance through

   Kuching (9WW0, or Singapore (9VG).

iii. Vessels should confirm ETA by VHF 6 hours and 3 hours in advance. Bill of health

    should also be sent at least 24 hours in advance.

iv. Berthing Master boards in the achorage area 5 n niles SW of the terminal, in

    position 4( 24'.7N 113( 54'.0E.

 
NAVIGATIONAL APPROACH:

The loom of gas flares on Seria Oil fields 30 miles North East of Miri are general guide at night but should not be used as bearing because flares movable within the area of oil field and liable to be extinguished at any time. By night, three lighthouses namely Tanjung Baram, Lutong, Tanjung Lobang should be used as guide.

   

ANCHORAGE: 

Currently, the approach channel to Kuala Baram is shallow with a depth of about 2.1 m ACD at high tide. However, when the channel is dredged to 5 m ACD at lowest tide in future, ships of up to 5,000 grt will be able to come alongside.

 

It is recommended that vessels ancho close inshore S.W of Baram river mouth, but caution must be exercised as sudden squalls up to 2m may occurred for which allowance should be made. Extra caution must be exercised not to intrude the prohibited anchorage area at the further end of S>W. of Baram river mouth and the numerous submarine gas line araund the area.
