NORTHPORT wins CIO AWARDS

The highly integrated and interactive trading environment is expected bring shipping lines, hauliers, shippers and port activities closer

The pervasive application of information technology have already won Northport commendation with it being picked for the CI0 100 HONOUREE 2002" award by the Singapore-based CIO publication.

“The CIO 100 award recognition marks the progressive cornerstone of Northport’s quantum leap entry
to Asia’s most prestigious index of progressive enterprise for the year,” said Northport’s Senior Systems Manager, M Suresh Kumar.

The award singles out Northport for its success in being able to apply IT to deliver innovations, value and good returns to our port users. We at Northport constantly pursue a high degree of professionalism in the operational environment. The use of leading-edge IT technology has become one of the hallmark features of Northport (Malaysia) Bhd competitiveness as a world class port,” said M Suresh Kumar.

“We are constantly upgrading and working very closely with all liners and other port user in the transport chain like the hauliers, importers and exporters. It has always been the management's belief and commitment that a full-scale deployment of intelligent systems infrastructure would lead towards creating value for customers while nurturing a technologically-driven corporate culture,” said Suresh.

Consistent with the growing importance of ICT in the global port operating environment, NMB – the country’s premier cargo handling facility – is well ahead with plans to deliver digitized services over the Internet by providing an integrated and dynamic environment for port users.

We are in the forefront of transforming the port logistics environment through our new webbased applications that will have a refined process model for ecommerce related B2B and B2C transactions.

The new applications will supplement our existing Client Access System, the real-time interactive system that drives the client interface for container eCargo operations at the port.

The applications take a webcentric approach, leveraging on the global outreach of the Internet and provides lower cost of connectivity for customers, both locally and globally.

The highly integrated and interactive logistics system is expected to bring shipping lines, hauliers, shippers and port activities closer whereby Northport continues to act as hub point for the movement of goods into Malaysia and ASEAN, in the post AFTA period.
