Datin honoured CIT fellowship
It was yet another honour for PKA when its General Manager, Datin O C Phang, was conferred the Honorary Fellowship by the Chartered Institute of Transport (Malaysia Section) at the Institute's Annual Dinner in Petaling Jaya on 15th September, 2000.
The dinner, which was graced by the Minister of Transport, Dato' Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik, was attended by more than 200 guests including members of the Institute and practitioners from the transport industry.
Datin O C (as she is widely known in the transport circles) was bestowed the honour for the contributions to the development of Port Klang as a major port of international repute.
When she took over the helm of PKA in 1997 as the first woman CEO of a port in the region, she was undaunted by the man-sized task before her. She marked her style by initiating regular dialogues with various groups of port users - shipowners, shipping agents, forwarding agents, hauliers as well as other agencies like the Royal Malaysian Customs and the Ministry of Transport.
She also had good ear to the three port terminal operators in declaring that it was the duty of PKA to receive and respond to issues raised by the operators who operated in a commercial environment.
The recognition by CIT confirms her contributions in helping towards the efforts by the Minister of Transport to help realize Port Klang as a National Load Centre within such as short span of time.
But Datin O C's involvement in the transport industry was not only as the head of PKA. Her wide understanding of the issues and development of the transport industry stems from her stint at the Ministry of Transport where she last headed the Maritime Division after holding several other positions.
Undoubtedly, it is a befitting honour for Datin O C to be conferred the distinguished Fellowship by the CIT (Malaysia Section).
