Additional Service To Intra Asia Market

The expanding Intra-Asia trade has encouraged Tokyo Senpaku Kaisha (TSK) and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (K-Line) to jointly mount an additional call at the Klang Container Terminal (KCT) effective June 5, 2000.

The Gemini Service offers a fixed-day weekly (Monday) with port rotation connecting Port Klang, Jakarta, Surabaya, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Yokohama, Shimizu, Kobe, Keelung and Port Klang.

Four 1,100 TEUs ships have been deployed by both the Japanese carriers. TSK will contribute three vessels - Acx Swallow, Acx Seagull and Acx Falcon - while K-Line will contribute one vessel, Stadt-Dusseldorf for the service.

"Apart from providing a direct link to Jakarta and Surabaya, the service will also provide a good option and will enhance service frequencies to and from Japanese ports for our customers. With this additional call, there will be significant benefit for shippers as there will be 10 fixed-day weekly calls to ports in the Far East from KCT," said the Commercial Manager of Klang Container Terminal, Ms Helen How

In addition to the latest link, TSK has three other sailings a week from KCT.

The Pegasus Service with port rotations covering Port Klang-Jakarta-Hong Kong- Manila-Tokyo-Kobe-Keelung, calls KCT every Wednesday.

The Southern Cross service, linking Port Klang-Hong Kong-Keelung-Ulsan-Tokyo-Jakarta-Port Klang, operates every Friday.

The TMX service provides an inbound and outbound call weekly from KCT to Bangkok and Laem Chabang.

K-Line has an existing service from Port Klang, calling Manila-Yokohama-Nagoya-Osaka and Kobe, which calls every Tuesday.
