COSCON AMX From Westport

Coscon AMX joint service is one of the latest in the growing network of services at Westport.

The joint service provided by three national liners namely Coscon of China, K-Line of Japan and Yang Ming Line of Taiwan was inaugurated with the maiden voyage of MV Empress Phoenix on April 27, 2000.

The Far East-Mediterranean Service provides weekly service with shorter transit time between the Far East and the Mediterranean. A total of eight fully-cellular fourth generation container vessels are deployed in this competitive trade route service.

"COSCO had a kept a long history of friendly cooperation relationship with the Port Klang. We owe what we have achieved here to the strong support from the Port Klang Authority and the other parties concerned," said Yang Bin, the Vice President of Cosco Group.

He said: "We have strategically re-arranged the existing service routes. Far East - Mediterranean service route - Xingang Shanghai Hong Kong - Shekou, Singapore, Westport, Colombo, Suez Canal, Port Said, Haifa, Naples, Genoa, Marseille, Barcelona, Valencia. The establishment of the Far East - Mediterranean Service via Westport is a new venture and we strongly believe it will promote the development of Westport and our long term commitment in these areas."

With the Coscon AMX service, the options available to shippers to the Mediterranean and Far East has expanded. From Westport the service reaches Colombo in Sri Langka in three days, 18 days to Naples, 19 days to Marseilles and 20 days to Barcelona.
