JP Logistics strengthen its base

JP Logistics Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Johor Port Berhad has become the first port-owned company to secure road haulage license to transport container in Johor  and Malacca.

JP Logistics General Manager, Haji Ibrahim Jaafar said that with the haulage license the company will be able to better serve its customers especially SMIs in the southern region.

JP Logistics is one of the 20 new road haulage companies licensed by the Ministry of Entrepreneurs and Development as part of the Government’s effort to further liberalise the haulage sector and ensure a higher level of service reliability. The liberalization of the haulage industry will be a major boost to enhance the effectiveness and quality of surface transportation in the country.

The survey by the Federation of Malaysian Manufactures (FMM) found that shippers wanted greater reliability and quality in road haulage services. More than 55 per cent of the respondents in the nation-wide survey by FMM said they faced delays in the delivery of export containers while about 50 per cent said they faced additional charges because of delay in the removal of import containers from ports to shippers’ premises.

“The entry of JP Logistics into the haulage business is not to compete but to complement other haulage operators to help meet the needs of southern region shippers. JP Logistics was granted 50 licenses for prime movers and 350 trailers,” Hj Ibrahim said.

JP Logistics has already placed orders for the first batch of 13 prime movers and 91 trailers which will be put into operations by end of Octobers 2000. The company’s plan is to put into operations 30 prime movers and 210 trailers by end of the year.
