again
set
in
the
highest
monthly
container
throughput
handled
at
the
Port
when
the
traffic
volume
breached
61,675
TEUs
in
the
month
of
May
this
year.
The
previous
high
of
52,762
TEUs
was
recorded
in
the
month
of
April
2000.
The
record
handling
reveals
high-density
operations
at
the
Johor
Port
Container
Terminal
(JPCT)
and
a
high
level
of
productivity
increase.
Each
crane
at
the
terminal
handled
12,335
TEUs
in
May
this
year.
This
is
a
commendable
performance
for
JPCT
when
compared
with
other
well-established
container
handling
facilities
in
Malaysia.
JPCT
recorded
an
impressive
15
per
cent
growth
totalling
247,945
TEUs
in
the
first
five
month
period
of
this
year
compared
with
215,671
TEUs
in
the
corresponding
period
in
1999.
The
increase
raised
the
average
box
traffic
by
14.96
per
cent
to
close
to
50,000
TEUs
per
month.
The
three-berth
terminal
which
draws
760
metre
of
quayline
offers
15
metre
depth
alongside
and
is
capable
of
accommodating
vessels
up
to
80,000
displacement
tonnes.
The
terminal
is
supported
by
five
quay
cranes
and
17
transfer
cranes
and
has
a
capacity
to
handle
up
to
one
million
TEUs.
