Cruise services proves popular

Cruise services is fast-expanding at Johor. The landing craft jetty at the Johor Port has been attracting an increasing number of passengers visiting outlying islands.

The increase is also seen as a successful outcome of the Federal Government's decision to encourage domestic tourism by giving various incentives including first and third Saturday off-day for government servants.

Among the popular service at the passenger terminal is the cruise service provided by New Century Cruise liner.

Its carrier, Amusement World with a 500-passenger capacity has been the main focal point for tourists.

"Our 'cruise to now-where' service is becoming very popular," said Azizi xxx of New Century Cruise Liner.

"This is reflected in the number of passengers on board during the week-ends particularly on the first and third Saturday of each month. We have full bookings up to 500 passengers compared with 200-250 on normal days. In view of the growing demand for the cruising sector we are upgrading our facilities and providing additional facilities for valued clients," he added.

The positive growth of the cruise services has also been contributed by Tenaga Alam Sdn Bhd.

The speed-boat service provider between Batam and Malindo Islands said the cruise industry was moving into higher gears.

"We have deployed two speed boats, Malindo I and II, between these sectors which takes about 45 minutes. The speed boat is capable of carrying up to 91 passengers and we are regularly providing two daily services between these sectors," said Yunos xxxx of Tenaga Alam Sdn Bhd
