Smaller Ports Get Minister’s
Attention

THE
development of smaller ports in the country including the role played by
Kuantan Port will not be ignored.
The commitment was given by the newly-appointed Transport Minister, Dato’
Chan Kong Choy recently.
“They are equally important gateways. In fact all the smaller ports will
receive equal attention. We need Kuantan Port to handle the fast
growing volume petrochemical trade. The government has designated
Eastern Corridor as the petrochemical hub and we will ensure the port plays
pivotal role in the trade said Dato’ Chan.
Kuantan Port is the only container port in the Eastern Corridor that have
opened the doors and act as the gateway to the East Coast and attract more
investors to re-locate to the industrial area.
The government has announced various incentives to attract investors into
the Eastern Corridor under the stimulus package announced in early this year
said the Minister.
“We hope the government will further intensify its effort to attract more
value added operators to the corridor. Kuantan Port currently has a capacity
to handle close to 15 million tonnes a year and we can expand further,” said
the Managing Director of KPC, Dato’ Haji Mohamed Awang Tera. |
